NO they are not loud its just wingers they can handle a little noise 3 or 4 months of the year hell a rooster crows 365 days a year. They need to get a life [smilie=a_goodjobson.gif]

I agree there is some false belief they are loud but that depends on your view on loud

Our neighbours have wild peacocks in their back yard. They used to come right up close to the house rather early in the morning and make their 'honking' noises. Yes that is noisy! Now, they tend not to hang around so close, and you only notice them, when they jump into our chicken pens and eat the chook food!

My only experience with peacocks prior owning them was sitting watching them (mesmerised) struttîng around the Taj Mahal in India. When I acquired a 20 acre property I couldn't wait to own some of my own. From everything I had been told I expected them to be very, very noisy, but figured 20 acres would dilute the noise somewhat. I bought adult peafowl, one peacock and four hens and when breeding time came around sat back and waited for the cacophany to begin. It didn't. My peacock Raj called for the first time in the six months I had had him and it was just beautiful. I loved all the oooowahs and bops. I was sad when breeding season was over and Raj lapsed back into silence again. I now have three offspring peacocks and one hen. Maybe things will be different come future breeding seasons. Maybe there are just those to whom the peacock calls will be music to their ears and those for whom it is not. I have to admit though I was shocked at how "not noisy" my peacocks are and how hard it is to convince those without their own peafowl of that very fact.

a 20 car freight train going past your house at 1am is loud
a fleet of 10 Police sirens any time of the day is loud
a herd of elephants trumpeting and stampeding is loud
a football stadium as a goal is scored is loud
and the list goes on

but a peacock, no, not overly loud

Sounds like my place on any given weekend and I have 2 neighbors that ride them and kick up dust all day long. They would never want to complain about my fowls in any way
