My two year old peahen has finally laid two eggs. Now for the tension of waiting to see if they are fertile. If they are I will be very surprised.

Why will you be surprised? Do you have a peacock? I am guessing you do at 2 she can lay fertile eggs but it depends on how old your peacocks is?

I will be surprised because every time the male fans at her she leaves and goes into the shed. The male might also be really old as his original mate has grown a male tail and won't lay anymore.

If he's over 40 years old then yes he's probably past it if he's younger then he can still breed. Most mating is done very early in the morning or late afternoon so you may not see it and most hens if they are not ready will walk off but will mate when the time is right

Nearly wet my pants this morning. I candled the two eggs and both are fertile. She laid three more and started incubating them but I have now put them in the incubator. I had a problem with a goanna getting in and taking eggs last year so I don't want to risk leaving them in a nest that is on the ground. It has taken me 3 years but I am finally on my way.

Sound like our situation. The Peacock is really keen but she isn't. Hes 3 and shes 2 but I did see him mount her once. She is now sitting on a nest so who knows. No eggs but lets see what develops over the next couple of days.

Edit: There is now an egg :-D

99% of mating you will never see so never assume they are not mating they usually are but you just don't see it
