Just a reminder that breeding an Indian blue peacock to a pied peahen will NOT produce pied or white. That pairing will produce Indian blue split to pied ;)

Did you read that someone somewhere advised it would Colin? I hope they were corrected and not just on here

Just had to do it again some poor bugger asked " How much for peafowl?" on a chook forum and 1 or 2 of the answers are truly bizarre  one clown thinks they are greens sidesplit.gif sidesplit.gif I told them that poor person is getting the worst shocking advice I have seen especially from one guy on mentioning they maybe green peafowl or a cross, hollysh!t!! [smilie=a_holycrap.gif] he obviously has NO idea about peafowl or genetics. They are both Indian blues 100% NO green in them what so ever I though they may want to edit his crap out as he clearly doesn't know the first thing about peafowl or genetics  I said If they really want to help them just send the poster the link to APF where we will help them properly. ;) I think that was so nice of me :-D

I did have a second look  and it looks like another beginner pam has confusion over green and blue peafowl and amazingly doesn't know or see the difference like the chooky bloke WOW! [smilie=a_holycrap.gif] so I thought they needed more help urgently so sent the mod some more info and links to pass on so the chooky bloke and pam can start with the most basic info on peafowl and learn slowly from there.

This is what I sent to help them start out on the right foot.

Quote:
peafowl plural of pea·fowl
Noun
A large crested pheasant native to Asia, esp. the widely introduced common peafowl (Pavo cristatus).

Synonyms
peacock - peahen

Indian Peafowl, Pavo cristatus
Green Peafowl, Pavo muticus

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peafowl

http://www.wisegeek.com/what-are-peafowl.htm

http://www.australianpoultryforum.com/

Pictures of Green Peafowl about five months old
http://www.castlebury.net/greenpeafowliii.htm

As you [and blind freddy] can see not even similar to Indian blues, they are WORLDS apart

I hope that gets them started and an interest in learning more thinkerg.gif maybe in a couple of years I can sent them some basic genetics info but not now don't want to confuse them, baby steps.
