I haven't written anything about my peafowl for a long time so I thought I would post an update (if anyone is interested - or not! )

They are now around 12 months old and seem fighting fit. I guess I haven't written anything because I haven't had any problems. They are in their big enclosure and eat well and play and that's about it.

The male (Heathcliff) has been displaying a lot lately. He thinks he is very impressive and is SO serious about it. He has his little grey tail stuck up in the air, with two longer feathers sticking out the left hand side, and struts and scratches the ground while staring intently at whatever happens to be around that is worth showing off to!

I do have one question about their colouring if anyone can offer an opinion - they are pied, but have minimal white (basically a couple of white flight feathers on each side). Heathcliff has a lot of white mottling on his chest and I assumed that maybe all indian blues have that when young and it will probably disappear as he matures - is that correct, or might they be pied feathers?

I do have a photo in my gallery, not sure if this will work:

Nope, that didn't work. Can someone tell me what I did wrong? That just opens the gallery home page.

Deb :-D

Hi Deb, Your Peas look really cute, I was checking out their photos last night. I don't know much about pieds to be honest.

I know my Frankie is a year old and he is a plain indian blue as where I got him from only have the normal standard type and he has white feathers on his chest, I don't think that is much help to you. Although just looking at him he is totally different from frankies chest colouring.

I tried to put a URL to the pic for you so see if it works :-?

Hi Deb, It's great to read about Heathcliff & Cathy thanks for keeping us up to date. To answer your questions Heathcliff is not a pied but he is Split to pied. Splits in either Pied or white will carry white primary flights and in some cases a small white patch on their chest but more commonly just the white flights. The mottling will disappear as he moults each year and yes all juvenile Indian Blue Peacocks have this.

Thanks
P.A
