A few tips when buying Pheasants or Peafowl

1. Where possible always view the birds you are purchasing prior to handing over you cash. View the parents and other siblings for consistent quality stock.
2. Make sure they are disease free and defect free.
3. Buy from breeders with real experience not someone that can google and plagiarize others work and steal pictures. (There is NO such thing as instant experts any 10 year old can plagiarize)
4. Buy from reparable breeders with a proven history of breeding and avoid those jealous of the top breeders they will not have any quality fowls hence they are jealous (you can usually identify them buy childish rants trying to bad mouth the top breeders and they will have pink pacifiers at all times)
5. Ask for information from the breeder about the fowls, what are they feeding them ect.. asking questions is learning (not google) All the real breeders I know will happily answer any questions you have.
6. Avoid bad web site with plagiarized information and stolen pictures they are easy to spot all the good breeder know which are bad and will advise of the very worst of them (we PM you with all the info) we don't want you getting scammed or just very bad info as we see elsewhere.

I will add, make sure you know who you are dealing with, a sudden spate of fakes have turned up elsewhere so be aware, also fly by nighters that pop up suddenly and make stupid claims then disappear again lacking any knowledge, experience or credibility. If you dealing with a minor [under 18] make sure they have their mummy and daddy's permission and that they actually have fowls.

If people just stick with APF then you will get pure fowl everytime and we are all real people unlike the fakes elsewhere and we have all the names and will give them out in a second to expose them

Also watch for pictures that turn up taken at zoos and claimed they are a persons, TW has examples of some very recent appeared elsewhere

Also remember the time of year you buy as some pheasants and peafowl could be in a molt. Buy peafowl out of breeding season so they do not have a train much easier to transport them

Also if you read from idiots saying dark throats are not a mutation then you know who to avoid BIGTIME

Ask for genetic proof then watch them run for the hills or the sand box as they are a mutation and thats a fact for centuries know throughout the world

Both these cast doubt about whether they are pure mutations, or originate from hybrids.

The first paper states that the blackthroats differ from the red goldens genetically by 26 base pair changes;
The yellow goldens and red goldens do not differ from each other to any degree.

How are these results explained?

Dark Throated Goldens are listed as a Mutation and the first mutation developed from the golden pheasant. These are FACTS and have been the case for a very long time. If someone can show genetic proof to the contra then so be it, if not then they need to focus on breeding a bird or two

Are they kiddy with this

When you get a 'mutation' they mutate and you get a different looking fowl so the feather pattern and colours are not the same as the original.

Just look at the black mutant or blue mutant to see that.

I say cough up proof to anyone claiming this rubbish, I won't hold my breath.
