Does anyone know where to get peahens for a reasonable price in NSW? I have been looking for 8 months and could only buy a 1 yr old for $150 and have the option to buy two or three year olds for $300 in Goulburn which is a 4 hr round trip!

How many are you getting for the 300?

If its a mature (over 3 years old) WHITE peahen then the price is reasonable. If its a IB peahen then its a rip off and don't buy it.

It is an IB hen. The price is ridiculous but I just cant find any other source and I'm going to miss out on the breeding season again. There is another guy who is selling on gumtree and I bought a young one for $150. I was supposed to buy a female that was 2 years old but when I went to pick them up, the young one was no more than six months and the supposed 2yr was also close to six months old so I didn't take it. There are some dodgy sellers out there.

I would not pay $300 for a blue peahen not matter what, if need be forgo breeding this year and buy a young hen as that price is absurd to say the least. Yes you do have to watch some people there are a few dodgy breeders around that are just driven by money

Completely agree with you TP its not that important to breed blues so miss 1 or 2 seasons and buy at the right price

Is it important to me to breed. I have been trying for four years. Started with a female that turned out to be too old. Then got a young hen who was killed by a goanna. I spent a lot of time and money to make my pen goanna-proof so the thought of waiting another two years is depressing!
