Hi

I have 2 Peachicks with one mother- no history of eye sinus problems as they are very well fed family!
One of the peachicks displayed a swollen eye since hatched… There has never been any mucus or puss or anything coming out from it!
Obviously this little one stays close to MUM and scratches and shakes head from time to time, but not in excessive amounts!

I have managed to get some photos of the eye so you all can give me your thoughts. Could the mother damaged the chick while breaking her out of the egg?? Perhaps damaged some how with wire or stick or pecked by others?
It nearly went down and i thought the chick was going to see out of it again but alas it still remains the same… NEVER HAVE SEEN MUCAS OR PUSS EVER and no other eye or chicks have it indicating that is not an infection.??

I can see the swelling I wonder if its a deformity with the skull? since it was born that way

IF it was born with the swollen area and I mean born with it as in hatched this way then i think it will be bone deformity pushing on the eye socket or close to it. If it was some form of respiratory infection then you would see discharge from the eye or bubbles in the corner

Thanks for you thoughts!
A deformity…as in just a thing of nature or is it because they are deficient in something during breeding season, which I can fix.

If its a boy I will name him Popeye & if its a hen winkie [smilie=a_rolling.gif]

All other chicks are fine….yes they are very very cute! dd66789 I love them so much….. 8 chicks in total this season form 4 hens! (we did have more but nature balanced them to a nice 8) chicken4.gif

I think she will eventually loose her sight due to forced eye being closed….but I have zero experience with this type of thing. Some days its looks better as in she forces it open a bit more or as the skull grows / changes shape- I will just have to wait and see. She is coping with it fine but still close to her Mother hen BUT they are still chicks so we w i_like1 ill see what happens as she grows.

I will for sure update this post!
