No you can clearly see they are a mutation no hybrid. Also dark throats are not a hybrid either they are a red mutation.

I know what you mean Mr Peabody.

If you look at Beebes "Monograph of a Pheasant" there is an illustration of several golden pheasant hybrids, one of which exhibits a gold area on the chest/breast.

http://archive.org/stream/monographphea ... 1/mode/2up

Now these birds look nothing like PA's banded pied, but it's an interesting concept.

I also have been told that the "lineated kalij" that we have here in Australia actually have silver pheasant blood in them, but then few lines of pheasants around the world can truly claim to be 100% pure.

That is really interesting reading that book, good find there parvo thanks for sharing that, as you say they look nothing like PAs banded pieds and its a different concept but shows the mix up all around the world. Shame about the kalij I wonder if is was done for a reason?

None of my LK's show any silver blood so I would doubt the total accuracy of that info. I will have a read through that but always good to read a book on pheasants

Your welcome parvo

For Mrpeabody

There are also different mutations of the Golden Pheasant known from birds in captivity, including the Dark-throated, Yellow, Cinnamon, Salmon, Peach, Splash, Mahogony and Silver. In aviculture, the wild type is referred to as "Red Golden" to differentiate it from these mutations.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Pheasant

The Dark-throated Golden was the first mutation developed from the golden pheasant
http://www.gbwf.org/pheasants/golden.html

There is lots more but you get the gist. Some and I say some claim they are not a mutation BUT no proof or blood testing has ever been offered or done.

There will always be a minority of lifes sceptics but most are ignored as many are new ranchers with little to offer on genetics

So the banded pied is from dark throated golden judging by the shadowing under the chin which is typical of the dark throated golden pheasant mutation [Chrysolophus pictus f. obscurus]

Spectacular bird by the way always good to see a new mutation
