I must also add my congratulations to you PA on producing the banded pied golden .However I am still not convinced that by adding more yellow to these birds you will produce a Yellow Golden as the rest of the world know them .While I have not much doubt you will be able to mimic a Yellow golden in colour I will be extremely surprised if it mimics the original in genetic makeup and as such when outcrossed to a normal Golden no Yellow Goldens would be produced. It is still my understanding that the original Yellows first appeared in their current form and were not produced by selective breeding.I will be happy to hear from anyone who can prove otherwise. Bruce. |

Hi Menil, The original Yellow was produce around 1950 from captive breeding not from wild stock, there are no recordings of yellow's in the wild. You need to understand this is a mutation (sport) breed in captivity from selective breeding i.e. father to daughter to establish the mutation the very same process we are and have undertaken here at Peacocks Australia. There will be no mimicking of yellow that's not possible and doesn't make any sense sorry. To produce a stable mutation it MUST be both Phenotype and Genotype we have both in Banded Pied and WILL have this in time with Yellows. We have extensive knowledge of genetics and know our breeding stock extremely well. If you breed a stable yellow mutation over a red golden you would produce all heterozygous chicks you then breed the daughter back to the father producing yellow mutations. Once we have the Yellow mutation stable in both Phenotype and Genotype there will be no need to breed over red golden. menil wrote: It is still my understanding that the original Yellows first appeared in their current form and were not produced by selective breeding. As we have already stated selective breeding in the only way. here’s some "proof" Enjoy - http://gbwf.org/pheasants/golden_yellow.html Thanks P.A |

Adding more yellow is the only way to breed yellow, Menil, you wouldn't be adding red or blue Maybe this link might also help you Menil http://www.aviangenetics.com/Pheasant_G ... _Research/ PA, if I read between the lines there, you already have yellows or something close but are making sure it’s stable first? Can you give us a hint as to what else you guys are working on? Keep up the ground breaking work, I am sure every pheasant breeder will be very grateful when they have the banded pied and yellows in their back yard |
