we had one male and a female ringneck we got at an acution (the first pair we ever got). The first year we bred them they had both creamy coloured and normal colourd young. we assumed the creamy ones were the cinnamon mutation.

Last breeding season we got several more birds from a different place, however, these birds are alot smaller than our original ones? do we have different subspecies of ringnecks in aust? I know they exist? if so what would ours be? and is it ok to breed them together? One type both males and females are larger, fatter and built like bricks, while the other type are smaller skinnier and very streamline???

Thank you

Hi Chevron182, our knowledge of "Ringnecks" is somewhat limited, but it is our understanding in the "True" Ringneck Pheasant (genus Phasianus) there are over 30 Spieces. Many breeders do refer to a "Jumbo" ringneck so you may infact have the "True" & "Jumbo" Ringecks? Our ringnecks are the "True" which are quite small and slender.

Thanks

Hi Chevron 182, on our trip, we visited a very large Pheasant breeder in NSW who specializes in Ringnecks, and he confirmed our opinion on your Ringnecks. So yes we think you have both as well!

Thanks
