If you want old crap chooks then go to those crap auctions
If you want good, clean, quality then go to a breeder direct and pay 1/2

Its quite simple

I can't agree with going to breeders direct, although i have in the past. As a property with strict quarantine requirements, and some very expensive birds i have bred, bought, or imported, - i don't want the risk of having a visitor coming back to help themselves at a later date. ( yes, it's happened before)
So I arrange for offsite meetings and sales and send many of our birds to auction. i also don't visit other breeders properties much - or take bootcovers, etc to ensure no cross contaminations from my place to theirs/ vice versa. i see it as a form of respect, but not all agree i know.
I have bought many birds at auctions, but not blindly. I usually get to know the breeder first...if they're not there, i don't spend. Any birds that may come back from auctions or shows are again put into quarantine pens for a few weeks before re-integration.If it's a new breed, it will have it's own pen anyway if there's more than a pair or trio.

'Always careful,
Andrew

Wise Andrew, well done, you don't want to spread those diseases to your flock
