PHOTO COMP NUMBER 39 - "MY CHICKS"

This is a comp for all poultry chicks/ducklings ect... If its a chick and its poultry its in.

No people, dogs, cats, cars ect..... in the photos, just the chicks.

First prize is............

Can I just ask a couple of questions?

First how old is still considered a chick and secondly what is covered by etc? No people dogs cats cars etc?

Good questions.

By definition
chick
A young bird, esp. one newly hatched.
A newly hatched domestic fowl.

Technically in the chicken world its under 12 months old. I feel a chick is under 8 weeks but as long as its obviously a chick under 12 months its acceptable.


As for No people dogs cats cars etc? (ect.. covers no other object in background) this mean the focal point must be the "chick" in this case or in the last comp any poultry breed. so an example of a non focal point for say the last comp would be..

This was not entered just using this pict from the galley as an example only.

Another example would be a person holding 1 chick in their hand. If the picture was a long shot show the whole person with the chick that would not be acceptable however if the picture was a closeup just showing the hand with the chick in it this would be acceptable.

I would prefer to see no other item/object in the background if possible but that's not always that easy to do.

The ideal entries are closeups of JUST the bird and the best examples of that are in the current photo comp from nightmare and his guinea fowl chicks.
