RICKETS???

I found one of my young cockerels in the pen today, with no balance at all, sitting on his haunches. He is quite bony as well, and his poop appears to be watery. He seems quite alert, and when offered some food he showed alot of interest, but didnt eat a great deal. He also seems to be 'sneezing' every so often, but has no discharge noise or smell from his mouth/chest. He is a lovely little chook who has been very active up until now, and I dont want to lose him, any advice would be much appreciated. Thankyou.

He could have more that one problem by your description with rickets they don't sneeze that would be some respiratory problem I think you will need antibiotics so you will need to take him to a vet

Cocci is rife about at present also. I would isolate him and keep him warm, antibiotics would be my first port of call also, you can get a broard spectrum from most pet shops these days. The diet posted previously is great for giving back some energy to depleted chooks and may well work to some advantage for your boy.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Im not entirely sure what the problem is now becuase the symptoms have changed. He is still quite unsteady on his feet, and has been making a gurgling sound fron his throat and has been putting his head up/back trying to get some comfort to breath. There is absolutely no dischare whatsoever from his nose or throat, and his crop is very soft and spongy and I can feel a few small lumps in it which i think is some small pieces of steak that he was given last night in an effort to get him to eat. He is no longer sneezing either. I ended up looking up sour crop, even though his breath is still fine, and I found he experienced some relief after I massaged his crop and allowed the contents to drain, although I know I havnt completely emptied it, there was alot of creamy liquid and it came up quite readily.i dont have a syringe or tubing to irrigate his crop with, and I dont think I will be able to get any until maybe tuesday. So does anyone have any suggestions until then?? Again, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou
