Post subject:  Blackhead in Peachicks

I had four peachicks but now only have two,I suspect 'blackhead'.. They were hatched by a peahen and left with her to care for, I am in the country and they have a fair area to roam, they are fed Turkey Starter [medicated I think]. I am looking for a treatment other than Dimetridazole or if this the only one, is it available and under what name and from whom in Aust. Thank you

Thanks for the reply and information. I am not aware of recogniseable symptoms but I read or heard that this is the most common problem in raising peachicks. As they are with the mother they are not readily approachable and therefore difficult to check appearance health wise.
At about 14 days she got them to roost with her on a shelf in a shed about 10 feet off the ground, the first one to die I found on the shelf the next day it looked as though it had been sat on,it was quite plump and well feathered etc. The second to die looked hunched and slow during the day and I expected to find it on the shelf the next morning but it was not there probably the 10 feet was too much
Tonight the remaining two look OK and are roosting on the shelf.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated, I think it would be almost inpossible to find any droppings, I do have poultry and one goose, the peachicks are not in the poultry enclosure but the poultry do wander in the same large area as the peachicks
