Post subject:  Urgent plz help!! Chicken that had mites?

Hi
I have a Pekin hen who when I was inspecting my chooks had lumps on her face and one of her eyes couldn't be seen. We discovered smaller lumps on other chickens, then figured out it was mites. We had to dunk all the chickens with Madison 50( poor chooks they all lost their dignity) and we saw the bumps on the chooks get smaller. But on this Pekin she was the worst of the lot and now there is something growing on her second eye. Looks like the same stuff on the other eye. She looks pretty bad. The bumps on her are slightly smaller but both of her eyes are considerably worse. I cant see anything else wrong with her, or find an answer or a disease to cause this. Maybe fowl pox? She's a bad case for fowl pox. Her feet are also gnarled. I am very worried about her please answer soon. hide:
Thanks

Hi ChookLover,
It could be fowlpox or possibly even an abscess in the third eyelid from an upper respiratory infection.

Do you have any photos for us to look at?

Cheers

Hi
Yeah, my camera is dead at the mo - I'll see if I can get a pic up soon. Could you please explain what an abscess in the third eyelid from an upper respiratory infection is please?
Thanks
Chooklover
P.S. Anything I can give her to ease her pain or help her to be better soon?

Birds get infections of their upper airways like their sinuses, their nostrils etc.
Bird pus often becomes fairly quickly- not liquidy like in dogs, cats or people.
Once the pus becomes hard the body can't remove it-it just surrounds it with a thick layer of tissue- called "walling" it off. Antibiotics won't remove it either- it needs to be removed surgically at this stage. (Antibiotics only help early on when the pus is liquid, but may still be needed to stop new lumps-or abscesses- forming).
In these cases you are left with a thickened swollen area- the abscess. This can be seen around the eye and sometimes in the eyelid.
