Piperazine has an extremely high level of resistance development and only treats one worm species. Have you performed follow up faecals to determine if all worms were cleared. Seeing worms in the faeces suggests a heavy burden which indicates inadequate worming or a high level of recontamination. |

The wormers I mentioned above as suitable would all be in my arsenal at different times. If you want to suggest a scenario I can suggest an appropriate wormer. |

Just as foot note Roundworm (Ascaridia galli) is the most common worm affecting poultry. Piperazine, a common harmless wormer, will eliminate roundworms. |

Piperazine has not been used a a sole drug on a commercial basis for over 15 years because over a short time its stops working due to resistance. If your worming is managed properly you shouldn't be seeing worms passing through as they should not be developing to adult size. I suggest you look at some articles such as http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/826003 before quoting its effectiveness. It states" Piperazine had a good effectiveness in older chickens (61-83%); in young chickens it was entirely ineffective. Piperazine showed an extenseffectiveness ranging from 17 to 67% only in older chickens in cases of a mild invasion; otherwise it was equal to zero" . At best in that study, 17% of chickens were not cleared of roundworm using piperazine. There are dozens of similar trials showing similar results if you search Google scholar for them. The only info that gives it a glowing report are articles from the 70's and article written by people trying to sell it. The only time it pops up in clinical tests these days is when it is trialled against herbal options in third world countries, where they still use it because its cheap. |
