Hi Wickedwings wave.gif

I've sold the stuff but never used it, it would want to good for the price they sell it for.
I would be going for the sardines and cat biscuits if I was you.

I remember reading this a while back about cat biscuits. I was at the local supermarket today and like the tinned cat food there were so many boxes of cat biscuits to choose from...

From memory most of these biscuits contain 30% protein. I was wondering if anyone feeds their chookies cat biscuits, which brand they use, which flavour they buy, though I wouldn't give the chicken flavoured as it doesn't seem right, how they prepare it and how often they give it to their chookies.

Thank you, kindly 52.gif

Just read all 14 pages on viatmins and protein in the PEAFOWL & PHEASANTS, some excellent dietary information there; would this also apply to chooks? Please excuse my ignorance.

So Friskies for Older Cats and VIP Gourmet seem to be the recommended. Do you need to soak the cat biscuits or crush them up for chooks?

Hello HH, I would be inclined to moisten them as they are very hard and crunchy, kitties have teeth but our chookies dont. I will be on my way to the supermarket to buy some as a treat for them and give them warm in the morning. Good for those early chilly mornings.

Thanks, Chickababe,

I thought that hens have teeth ;)

Bought my box of Whiskas Older Cat Tuna, Sardine, Salmon & Prawn Flavour, crushed it up as a treat, as the girls are out free ranging.

I'll try the warm puss bickie mash tomorrow morning with a spice mix blend that my uncle in the UK feeds his chooks. Though he feeds his warm mash in the late afternoon during their winters to keep their bellies full at night. The ingredients are based on Battles Poultry Spice consisting of aniseed, fenugreek, garlic, ginger, and mustard powder.

http://www.battles.co.uk/products/006/p ... try-spice/

My hubby thinks that I am crazy [smilie=new_silly.gif] also suggested that I wouldn't have to season the girls if I fed them these spices

OK so I started thinking maybe ol' Uncle Jackie in his late 80's knows more about giving the chookies a warm dinner in winter than I...

So I soak the puss bickies in warm water to soften them up, an hour later they are still hard  I was hoping to give the girls this for dinner but they were still hard...How long do they actually take to soften up?

Chickababe, if you are planning this for breakfast hopefully someone will respond and give an answer.

Do you need to crush them up first before they are soaked or eaten dry?

All feedback appreciated as the kids NOW think it is a waste to have cat food without a cat!

sidesplit.gif I was able to buy two boxes of Whiskas and get a third for free and like you hope they like them as I don't have a cat either

I found them still hard too after some soaking, but by the time I arrived home 2hours later all the puss food was gone. Sometimes we refer to Peaches as a piggy puss and now she can really live up to her reputation eating Whiskas.

Thanks for the feedback Chickababe, the girls didn't like it soaked, pecked at it fussily ground up.

Three boxes, gee you were keen, what flavours did you buy?
