sick rooster

my rooster ned is sitting around alot not staying with his girls even sits to eat will get up if i go to him something is not right any advice would be good

Sorry to read about poor Ned, more detailed information would be appreciated, like his age, any recent injuries, trauma, change in diet or routine? Are his legs weak? Maybe Ricketts or a calcium deficiency? Worms, lice, mites, ticks? Have the chooks been wormed and dusted recently? What is the colour of his comb?

thanks for replying ned is about3 regullary wormed his comb is bright red his only symptom is sitting alot and not mixing with hens as much he is a white sussex had no trauma that i know of one thing i might add is his spurs are very long about 3 inches hes not limping at all what do you think regards kimbo

I've only had chooks for 18 months and APF has helped and guided me enormously. So I am hoping that someone with more eggsperience outhere on this forum will help and enlighten you and give you advice and help you rooster's ailments...

How does his body feel over all? Is he thin or fat, what do his droppings look like? What wormer do you use and are you regularly changing it? Using the same wormer time after time allows worms to build a resistance to it. Try a different wormer and do a follow up dose as recommended on the packaging. Have a look inside his beak and mouth area for any white lesions or sores.

What are you feeding them and is he the only rooster in the pen? If hold him or offer food closer to him does he try to get up and eat it? How does his breathing sound and are his nostrils clear or covered in muck? Are both of his eyes clear?

He may benefit from an antibiotic and most likely a multivitamin.
