Bein new to chooks after 10 years with parrots I want to clarify how many time per year I have to worm the chooks, can it be the same as the parrots every 4 months seem to me everyone is different but not sure why

Cheers

[smilie=welcome.gif] BIRDZ,

Everyone has different worming methods and advice.

I worm my chooks at the start of each season, so my chooks are due to be wormed in September, Spring, then again in December, Summer etc This is an easy way to remember when to worm them. I alternate between two different wormers so that the wee beasties don't become immune to the one wormer. I am going to try worming tablets next time.

In between chemical wormings, at full moons, I give my chooks garlic infused water and or Apple Cider Vinegar in their water and also finely chopped garlic in Greek Yogurt. There are a few threads on these topics in this section.

I have also been adding "chook spice" to their breakfast mash this winter.

Hi, BIRDZ wave.gif ,

I chemically worm my chooks quarterly, Spring(September), Summer(December), Autumn(March) and Winter(June).

Here is the thread on Chook Spices

The chook spices taste nice in pumpkin soup too!

[smilie=welcome.gif] Woods'y,

At the moment I am using Aristopet's Worm Enda Poultry Wormer and I am going to try Avitrol Plus Tablets next worming next month.

I have also used Piperazine in the past.

Hi PP,

You are wasting your time alternating between Worm Enda and Avitrol Plus- both contain the same active ingredient-levamisole; Avitrol Plus also contains the tapewormer praziquantel.

Why don't you try Vetafarm's Wormout Tablets for Pigeons and Bantams ?. It contains oxfendazole and praziquantel and the dose is 1 tablet per 2 Kg bodyweight.

Thank you, kindly 52.gif parvo for your advice,

I am still relatively new to chooks, the Avitrol Plus was the only worming tablet I could get in the next town.
