That a great response thank you I was told they do it for safety but I thought there had to be more to it than that. So would 2.5 feet off the ground be enough and would they need a ramp to get up?

I found using a ladder up to the perches to help train the girls to sleep off the ground and that worked so well and now they teach the chicks to climb the ladder

Mine have never used the roosting perchs I put in they all pile in the boxes [smilie=a_doh.gif]

Mine have never used their roost, either. They sit on it in the morning, while waiting to be let out into the run - so they can get up onto it.

But at night, they have a favourite corner on the ground, where they all snuggle up together. That's the corner that is cleaned every day - poop-cleaning and fresh straw.

I've never questioned that behaviour.... Should I?
