Hi hope you can help us..last night when i locked our lot up they were already on the roost so i just closed door..this morning when i let them out my beautiful rooster is staggering like a drunk..everything about him looks good apart from that...breathing ,eyes, colour all usual and no damage i could find..he still made it to feed bowl and enjoyed food..we have gale force winds here at moment and he was having problems keeping on his feet..all the girls are good..i thought about moving him but decided he would stress being away from his girls..not sure what to do for him..

Sorry to hear your roo has the wobbles. It has been very windy here too. Could it be that he has injured his leg/s due to the high winds. Or maybe he has concussion from a fall. He may have been blown off his feet. Have you checked him over for signs of injury?

I have no idea what could be wrong with him. No possibility he had access to any mouse poison?

Not a chance of mouse poison.
still not himself today but he has crowed twice.i take that as a good sign..his girls are still looking after him..tail still low and still staggering..i pulled out everything in chicken house today(much to the disgust of the 2 dears sitting in nesting box lol) in the hope i might have found something ..found nothing but its very clean and tidy in there now! :-D

Good that he is crowing today.

Have you checked him for ticks any other nasties like lice that may be lurking on him or for any bites or injuries or maybe Rickets?

You could put some avian vitamins in their water or give him the Rickets sick chook diet. Some people use Poly Aid Plus for their sick chookies too.

1 egg yolk (not the white)
1 teaspoon honey
2 tablespoons natural yoghurt (not sweetened)
2 tablespoons grated apple or carrot
some multivitamin powder (not essential)

You might never work it out, spider bite, an infection of some sort, who knows. As long as he gets on the mend. Please keep us informed of his progress.

From what I read yours free range during the day? so they can access gardens, grass areas ect...? so if yes to both then its likely he has eaten something he shouldn't have and its working its way through his system. Is his comb the normal dark colour? If he can roost up off the ground then you can probably rule out rickets so keep him cooped for now and see how he goes

Hi and thanks every one..still no closer to working this out..
he hasnt crowed today but had a couple yesterday..looks no worse..his comb is still nice and red..when i let them out this morning he looked so proud his tail held high and and mighty gust of wind came and all but blew him off his feet..i am sure i heard him mumble a bad word..lol..
they were wormed 6 weeks ago i did notice some soft dropping but they have been getting a few sunflower seeds..stopped them now..too soon to worm again? :?: should i wait to see how he goes..dont want to overload his system :-?
