Hi Everyone
I am new to chickens and had a flock of 4 girls, 2 isa brown girls, a pekin x hamburg and a silkie. The girls are about 6 months old with the isa girls and pekin laying. About a month ago my pekin girl starting limping and didn’t want to weight bear on the bad leg. She was alert and interested in food so I assumed it was maybe a sprain or something. Then she started diarrhoea which again I put down to one of those things! Then she stopped laying and last week she wouldn’t get around much and was all puffed up by which time I couldn’t save her. Unfortunately around the same time I lost her one of my isa girls started limping and wont weight bear. She stopped laying earlier this week and then I found diarrhoea so took her straight to the vet. Our vet is great but unfortunately we aren’t in a high chicken area lol so she seemed a little lost, all vital signs were good she was alert but had lost a little condition. She said she was too old for Marracks disease so thought it was probably a leg injury and gave her penicillin shot as well as a pain killer. There was no difference so I called her friday and she gave me antibiotics and pain killers to give her orally (which is no problem). I had another look at the bad leg this afternoon and there seems to be a little redness and swelling centred around the base of her middle toe (I can’t say whether the pekin girl was the same as she had black legs and five toes so not sure sorry). I am sorry for the long post but I thought in the situation the more info the better. I am hoping that someone can please help me before I lose my girls.

Do your chickens have a wire floor? Is the foot injury hot to touch? You may have had a simple case of bumblefoot or some type of infection which took hold.
