What are the symtoms of worm burden in chooks. I have one chook who has been lethargic for two weeks now. She is still eating (but not alot) and getting about but not with alot of vigour. She has a dirty bum (pooh sometimes has a yellow colour to it) and is slowly losing condition.
I haven't wormed them for a while now ( I know my bad), but just wanted to check what the symptoms were in case it could be something else and worming her right now would be a bad idea.
I have six chooks, one duck and three geese that all free range together.
Also this afternoon I noticed another girl with a dirty bum and she also looked a little quite, though it was a warm day here today, but she could be heading in the same direction as the other girl.
Thanks

Some symptoms are drop in egg laying, loss of appetite, ruffled appearance, drooping wings, loss of weight and they can sometimes have diarrhoea

This has some good info

Thanks for the information flapwing, it looks like we have worms. I realise now that the girls stopped using perches when I got them a new chook house and because they have been sleeping on top of their pooh, ( I do change the bedding every two weeks) they most likely have become infested from this. So I'll worm them and get them back onto perches asap. Thanks again.

If I where you I would worm them twice once now and then again in 3 weeks so that way you break the worms cycle of breeding

Thats the plan flapwing. I read in a previous post about someone alternating between two different worm tablets so I've ordered those two to use. Thanks again for the help. than657

Alas she died last night. Funny thing is I didn't see any worms beening past after I wormed her.But she was really sick in the last 48hrs so maybe her system had shut down to the point that her gut wasn't working normally. Fingers crossed that the other poohy bum girl wont go the same way.
