I was wondering if anyone could help little Browser. (as Chickababe decided to call it) Browser is sick, we are pretty sure it's a respiratory infection of some kind as it makes this funny noise as it breaths and is breathing by opening its beak rather than with its nose. It is definitely not as energetic as usual but it's still eating, not drinking so much but it's still running around a bit. Also there is no snotty stuff. But how do we know which infection or whether or not we have the right medication to treat it? At the moment we have all the chicks on triple C (think that's the antibiotic), it is very hard to isolate it as we only have one light bulb and despite putting another box inside the box, it has managed to jump out anyway.

I have done some googling and there is a lot out there for chickens as far as respiratory problems are concrened as it is very hard to tell which one as Browser is only 1-2 weeks old and a lot of the 'signs' invlove reduction in egg laying and things to do with wattles and weight loss.

Any ideas, advice, information would be very helpful and much appreciated.
Hope everyone had a great christmas! santa1

Hi, ILoveMyChickies santa1 ,

Are these the same chicks that you purchased and popped under the new mummy hen that she rejected, the same ones that were vent pecking? I think that it maybe best that you put keep them all on the course of the antibiotics and keep them together in the brooder. Keep the brooder dry and clean by changing the soiled wood shavings.

Here is a thread on chick care

Hello PP

This is the little one hatched on the same day we bought the other chicks and it is the main bottom pecking culprit. Maybe he/she may have picked up something from pecking bottoms (funny but not really, as this one is obsessed with bottoms). It seems to have picked up a little this afternoon. We have separated it from the others and have drop fed the antibiotics.

The wood shavings are changed regularly and water kept clean too.
