Can any one please help identify these bugs, they have invaded the chook coop in the heat and I don't know what to do? Are they harmful to the chooks?

Thank you, kindly 52.gif

No good with identifying bugs

But if they are bothering you = can you rake them up and get rid of them or are there waaaaaaay too many for that

I would have thought the birds would eat them = being protein and chooks having a predisposition to eating all things bug

Are they eating the chooks poop? Or just milling around eating their food? Or what.

Someone else here ought to be able to identify them for you.
Me – nope – sorry – never been any good re bugs

Thank you, kindly 52.gif soozoorps,

There are hundreds of them! No they aren't eating the poop, or milling the chook food, just clustering around the frozen water bottles and on the giant spotted gum. Way too many for the girls to eat, haven't seen them eat more than a couple.

I have raked and mucked out the coop again.

Thank you, kindly 52.gif again for your input.

Thank you, kindly 52.gif doggo,

I just read the link, that's probably why the girls aren't eating them.

Well I’ll be blowed! They are just doing what comes naturally and en-masse no less!

Thanks doggo – I have learnt something new (and interesting bug wise) today :-D

We scraped them off the spotted gum to disperse them, it's a lot cooler today and there aren't as many.

good and here's hoping they are gone soon or at least at greatly reduced numbers in your yard!

They really are a plague :( Any more suggestions on how to eradicate them with out chemicals that would harm the chooks?

Thank you, kindly 52.gif

They disappeared here almost as quickly as they appeared. While they were here they were quite well behaved and confined themselves to crawling over flowering tea-trees etc.
