Can vets give this to chickens 1 dose at a time?

Yeah asked my vet that one but the above was also her answer. It comes in 1000 dose lots with a short shelf life. it just wasn't practical for my vet to keep it.

your Vet is honest

Yeah we like her :-) Years ago our pet chook (think kids pet like family dog thus trip to vet) got really sick so we took it to the vet but she said it was at the point she couldnt save it and put it down. She then did an autopsy on it for free to confirm what she thought had Killed it. I "Think" it must have been cocci as she said it was something it should have been vacinated for at 1 day old since we bought them from a hatchery.

Worries me because of that that these new ones arent imunised coming from a backyard breeder but guess we just cross fingers.

she was talking about Mareks

this is another reason why I say don’t buy any bird under 10 months old (vaccinated or not) = they are well past the age when they die from Mareks
now I know a lot want to get young chicks so they can watch them grow – but you get attached and it IS devastating if they get sick and then die all for the lack of a simple small injection in that first 24hrs

Hi Annette,

A 3-4 yr old hen is unlikely to be suffering from Marek's as you say.

However, biological systems including chickens and their diseases do not always read the textbooks!! and older hens have been diagnosed with this disease. Avian leucosis is more likely but really it could have been any one of a number of things and often the samples need to be sent for histopathology to confirm some of these diseases.

Mine was the same she did not have the demand to have it on hand and for 1 dose would waste the balance of the vaccine
