Hello there,
We have about 24 one week old guinea fowl in a summer brooder pen and have found that they are picking on each other. We have already had one death yesterday, a cinamon guinea who had blood on its wings and tail when we found it and we thought that it was from the other keets picking on it after it had died. Today I happened to walk pass and notice a distressing call from one of the keets, so I had a good look and found that one of the pearl keets had had its tail feathers picked off and some on its wings. I have moved the keet to a different brooder and placed antiseptic spray on its wounds. We have never had this happen before in the years we have been breeding guineas and are having trouble identifying the cause of this behaviour. Some ideas were that it is time to move them into a bigger pen with grass etc. or the fact that they are just getting their flight feathers or that we have been lightly spraying them with water mist over the past couple of days because of the 45 degree weather? I thought maybe the water droplets collecting on their feathers might cause them to pick on eachother? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,
Connar McLaren

Yes sorry for the late reply but they did have plenty of food and water. We sprayed antibiotics on the wounds and separated the keet with some of the younger ones after a few days when the wounds were healed we put it back into it's group and they got along just fine! Thankyou very much for your help :)
