anyone know where I can get some Tylan from, without having to take chicken to the vet?

i have a flock of young ones, that all have the sneezes and runny noses, some bubbly eyes, so looks like MG, but vets want $90+ just for looking at them.

any advice would be great, thanks so much.

Unfortunately, Tylan is a prescription-only drug so unless someone has some spare to give you then you can only get it from a vet after they have examined one of the birds.

Since it isn't used in dogs and cats, most vets won't have it in stock and will have to order it in for you anyway. Other alternatives such as Linco-Spectin, doxycycline or baytril are also prescription-only medications.

The only non-prescription alternative is one of the tetracyclines sold for pet birds like TripleC from vetafarm or Avicycline. I don't think any over-the-counter tetracyclines are registered for use in chickens.

Sorry I can't suggest anything else.

thanks, Parvo, really appreciate it.
yes, I nearly figured that they would not want to prescribe it without seeing a bird. I am going to try ad stay away from the vets if I can. I have them on oxymav, I may just be lucky....

You can keep the chicks warm and out of a draught and continue with the broad spectrum antibiotic.

There are previous posts on chicks with similar conditions, I think their owner also used Betadine for their bubbly eyes along with the antibiotics. These chicks all grew up to be happy, healthy hens with lots of TLC!

That's OK, here is one of the thread to the original post on bubbly eye and sneezy chicks.

All of BFLF's chicks grew up to be happy, healthy, hens, there are posts about them in Chickens.
