We have 4 12 week old silkies and are trying to teach them to go up/come down quite a steep ramp to their night nesting box. Will they eventually get it as it is too cold to be out at night. They are school pets so it would be good for them to learn ASAP so we don't have to go in on weekends.

Hi Jaystar wave.gif

After a few goes they should be right [smilie=a_goodjobson.gif]

Once they learn that their roost is upstairs they will head up there without fail. :-D

My silkies wings flap like no tomorrow to get up their ramp [smilie=a_rolling.gif] To teach mine to go up I put them on the bottom of the ramp and guided them up with putting my arms along the edge as they went up. I didn't let them stray or look over the edge. My roo used to hop half the way up and on the odd occasion missed the rung and fell off  No harm to him though. After two days they should be ok going home to bed.

My silkies( once they figured it out) easily got it in a day or two.

It takes time but they will learn. Have you tried placing them on the ladder at night?

I took out all the boxes out 1 hour before dark and it made them use the ladder I only had to do it 3 times and they got the hang of it

If the rooster perch is the only option then they should use it its natural for all ground type fowl to roost off the ground
