ok....try to make this as short as possible.......after you do it couple of times it is half the time.

HOMEMADE YOGURT....

LARGE POT
About 2 litres of milk (i use full cream $2 woollies milk)
two heaped teaspoons of greek yogurt that contains live cultures......(after you make your own you use that as a starter)
thermometer...you can guess but with a thermometer there is no failures.
thick towel or quilted pillow protector to wrap pot in.
oven light in your oven.
gauze or light tea towl, seive

Method

heat oven for just one minute to about 100 deg c....turn oven off but leave light on
Heat milk in pan to 180 deg F (83 c) slowly....then drop pan in sink filled with cold water till temp reaches 114 deg F..(45 deg C)
when temp reached gently stir in yogurt (dont add more than two teaspoons full)..only stir in for couple of seconds and leave lumps
I cover with glad wrap and put lid on but you can pour into jars with lids if easier.
wrap in large towel or anything warm
place in oven with door shut for about 20 hours
then put finished yogurt through sieve lined with gauze or old worn tea towel.. i use kids old gauze nappy liners or gauze used to hold sprains etc.. If using only for chooks skip this process cos putting through sieve just makes it greek yogurt and yummy thick stuff...chooks dont care if it is thin...
best to seive/drain whilst in fridge ...only takes half an hour to drain.
chuck out whey or feed to chooks...store finished yogurt in airtight container (glass best)

I now do it so often I find it easy as...if you use light white milk it ends up same calories anyway cos once you seive it all the water is out so you just end up with less finished yogurt. sorry it this doesn't make sense ....best to youtube it cos so many hints, tips etc....so $2 gets you about a litre of top grade yogurt that you can use for your next batch...just leave a couple of teaspoons as a starter.

Dools xxxxx

It is really easier than it looks...great with mango and currants...my chooks like it mixed with something though....they wont just eat it plain...so they get corn and shell grit in theirs xxxx

wave.gif Doolan, do you eat the yummy sounding yoghurt too? Or is it only for the chookies?

Do you have the link to the youtube vid that you know about?

Not sure what to google as there are so many youtube vids to look through.
