Can I worm a duck direct to the bill with a tablet? I do my cross breed chooks that way but is that the same for eating bred ducks also?

Hi rotten,
do you need to worm your ducks? As far as I am aware ducks drink so much water worms don't survive.

Russell

There appear to be many views, don't worm, worm only if you need to, worm as a preventative. The site Sinn gives is a UK site, but it does mention that in the UK there are no products licensed to worm ducks however some products can be used. The site does not say why there are no licensed products, it may be worth finding out why before you worm them.
It's not clear to me that products will necessarily work the same across the species i.e. mallards and muscovies, or have the same effect. I keep muscovies and have never wormed them, they have never had the problems discussed on the site Sinn lists. My comment was not meant to be prescriptive, it was only a question.
"Under normal circumstances ducks have good to excellent resistance to most internal and external parasites..." (my italics) p239 Ch.7 Storey's guide to raising ducks, Holread, 2001. Sinn is Avitrol Plus prescribed for poultry only, or for poultry and waterfowl?
thanks
Russell

Many good wormers and not licenced for particular fowls but are ok to use and are by many

Avitrol Plus is a good one but Nilverm is better I think
