Hi,

I have 6 hens, three that are approximately 1 year old, a 2 year old and 7 month old chicks, which are my own hatchlings. One of my hens and I think its one of 1 year olds lays soft shelled eggs, consistently. I think I have only ever gotten about half a dozen viable eggs out of her. All the other hens (including the newest ones) lay nice hard shelled eggs, so I am confident that its not dietary because they all eat the same and they are free range. I am not even sure which hen is the soft shelled layer, but does that mean its a health issue with that one hen?

I have read about adding shell grit to their diet would that help?

Regards Lee
