I used Maldison 50 and it made 3 chooks sick and 2 died. My rooster lost half his body weight and the surviving chook lost weight and her feathers looked awful. I sprayed the walls and roosts and the smell was horrifying and hung around for a couple of weeks. I put garlic in their water and the leaves and stems of garlic in their nest boxes.
The rooster has totally recovered as well as the rest of the chooks. I was really upset that it reacted like that.
The fleas, I found out were from the Possums. I googled them and they were exactly the same, long, thin and dark coloured. Not lice or stick fast.
I will never use it again.

Thanks for sharing your experience of Maldison with us Duckie.
Such testimony is more than enough to prevent me from ever considering using it.

Maldison is 100% safe in the right hands and its the best treatment available when used correctly.

Its been around a very long time and used by the pro breeders like myself for decades

All I can say is I used it in accordance to directions.
I am not saying to anyone to never use it, but I won't again.
I won't take the chance of making my birds sick again.
I am going to use DE and garlic in future.

I get as much of the off cuts as I can. (stems and leaves.) I put these in the boxes and leave them there. You can add fresh ones every now and then until you change their bedding then put more in. I cut up a couple of cloves say into three or four bits, and put them in too. If you mince a clove or two you can sprinkle them into their food. They will eat garlic. I do this once or twice a week.

By the way do you feed them their egg shells? I keep all egg shells and cook them in the microwave for a couple of minutes. Then I grind them up until fairly fine. Put them into a container. When I feed them at night I sprinkle some into the food hanger and they get their calcium that way. I don't buy shell grit.
