Yes I make my own shell grit.
I keep all egg shells, chook, duck, goose, and when I have enough I cook them in the microwave for about 30 to 60 seconds. Then put into a blender and blend until just short of powder. Leaving a fine grit but not powder.
Then I put some into the seed a couple of times a week.
Saves throwing all those egg shells away.

Thank you AndyV, I got the tip off a poultry web site that I visited wanting more information on eggs etc. Did you know that you can cook hen eggs to hard boiled, cop into dices and feed to parrots leaving the shells on? It gives the goodness of the egg and the calcium of the shell. Especially at breeding time. I haven't tried it yet but I was thinking of doing it. Maybe when my ringneck chicks have hatched I will feed it to the parents along with chilli and capsimum.
I know this has gotten away from the main subject, but what the heck. :-D

Yes I sprinkle it on the mash and mix it in at night. That way they have it first thing in the morning. (Don't blend it to a powder, just a fine grit). They don't even notice it. I also get meat meal and put a couple of spoonfuls in the mash as well. I put that in the hanger and mix it in. They don't mind it at all.
