I have a ( I think) drake. It is only about 7 months old.
A good sized bird. Looks healthy enough and gets a good diet of see and greens. Plus free ranges.
Over the last couple of weeks this bird has been having trouble walking.
At first he (I will say he for now) was thought to have been injured and thus a bit sore.
Yesterday he had total trouble walking and I carried him to the coup to lock up for the night.
This morning he was upside down being attacked by a mumma duck because he was too close to her ducklings.
He couldn't defend himself and I helped him to stand upright. I have kept him locked up to minimise movement and therefore no problems with the others.
Could he have a deficiency or been hurt in the hip region.
The size says drake but the caruncle is lighter and not as heavy as it should be. I did a vent check but it looked like a female there.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The drake is a muscovey. He is having so much trouble. A duck had a go of him and he was upside down and couldn't get upright. I had to help him.
Darn it I forgot to get the brewers yeast.
Can I get it in Coles?

I see you have a similar problem with a goose, could they be connected?

Hello Roy, My goose I think hurt her hip. She would improve then go backwards.
Yesterday she didn't seem to limp much at all. The chooks have made a number of dust bath holes in the run so she may have
tripped on one at some time. She gets about quite well.
The drake is totally different. he can hardly walk. If he gets hassled by another he gets upended onto his back and has a hard time
turning over. I am getting brewers yeast today and see if it helps, also some vitamins.
All my birds get a good varied diet. They get plenty of greens and I feed duck mash to the ducks.
I have also mixed micronised oats with their mash. They don't like the oats very much.
They also free range all day and are locked up at night because of foxes.
I am keeping the drake in the coup until he is better. He has food and water on hand.
He is a good sized bird and a nice nature. As I stated before he is only about 7 months old.
I have never had this problem with my birds before. It's all so strange to me.
