Hi

I have two 6 week old silver laced Wyandottes who are currently keeping me very busy! However, the last 2 nights one of the chicks seems to get a very croaky/crakling voice after i put them to bed. They sleep inside still in a little carry cage. I kept them inside in a big box yesterday while I was at work in case she was getting sicker, but they have spent a few days in a coop outside and free range on the grass with me most afternoons and mornings. She is doing everything else normal, eats well, drinks, is perky and active and noisy! Basically everything is normal expect after I put them to bed and I check a few hours later and she is croaky. She wakes up ok and goes straight into chooki duties! ha. I have noticed that they sneeze a bit. They have been sneezing on and off since i got them.

I use that soft hay(?) for their bedding in the night cage and in the box there is the hay and also some wood shavings which I also put in the nesting box in the coop outside which they love to scratch in. I'm thinking they might be a bit allergic cause the hay seems to be so dusty and they seem to sneeze after they have been scratching in it. Could this be the problem or could she have something respiratory? She only gets it after bedtime as during the day she's fine. She did get a little wet before bed 2 days ago as I got caught in a downpour bring them in for the night. I did dry her and kept them warm that night.

Can anyone suggest something I could give her to give her a health boost or something I could buy to help her.

Thanks for your help!
Natlie

ps. oh and her poop likes fine to me!

Thanks RJJ Fowl and Raf!
.
I though it might be respiratory disease. Just a bit strange that she only gets it after she goes to bed. From the minute she gets up to the time she goes to bed she is 100% fine. I ordered some Oxymav B and I will see how she is over the next few nights before I give her some.

thanks
Natlie

Could be mould spores from the hay?

Thanks! He, (as it turns out) is doing really well! What ever it was has gone now! He is quite the cheeky rooster who loves to pop up on my lap for a cuddle now and then!

However, I'm going to have to find the 2 of them a new home now as I can't keep roosters in town. :(
