Hello everyone, for a while know i have noticed my chicks faeces has been runny with a fowl odour and rusty in colour possibly with even traces of blood present?
and now i am starting to worry, i dont think its coccidiosis.
so the most likely casue would be worms? althought they havent shown any of the symptons ascociated with worms like, standing in a depressed state, loss of appetite, ruffled feathers etc....
Anyway my questions are. are ther any websites you could refer me too?
is anyone able to diagnose there problem? (if they have one)
I have just wormerd them (2weeks ago) but that was for round worm only so would i be able to worm them again asap with an alround wormer??

P.S i have posted some pics of there stools (not very good ones)
Thanks Peter

Hi Peter16, from the Photos there does seem to be quite a lot of blood this would indicate Coccidiosis we assume you raised them on Medicated Chick starter? Have you recently taken them off the chick starter? Some times chicks can get Coccidiosis at the time they are weaned off chick starter. Usually & especially if it’s too soon and the immune system hasn’t developed therefore cannot cope. We recommend you put them on a Sulpha based medication such as Sulphaquinn or similar and treat ALL the other chicks and any Adults that may have had contact.

Thanks
P.A

They are still on chick starter,
But im not entirely sure if it is a medicated one,
But i will look into getting the sulpha based medication
Note - there are only 2 birds on the coop/run

thanks Peter

Hi Peter16, with only 2 it's make life a little easier, especially to treat them. Some chick starters are not medicated because of Price should have a label sown onto the bag.

Thanks

The stock place i buy it from just has a whole bunch of different foods in drums and you scoop out kilos of it into plain plastic bags so it hasnt got any writting on it, this leads me to thinking its not medicated especially if its only 1.50 per kilo.

I have placed a sheet of newspaper under their favourite perch so tomorrow i will be able to examin and get a better pic of there droppings

Peter
