Gday Try using a flyspray first, hold the chook by the legs and a few sprays all over is good, then a dust in tomato dust.just sprinkle it on the chook and rub the feathers to get it onto the skin,Ivermec will kill lice and throw some garden lime around the coops this is what I do GRAHAME

There's a really easy solution to lice - I use 1/4ml per kilo of ivomec on the skin behind the neck. Will kill all lice and scale on leg plus worms (everything).

Downside is you can't eat eggs for 2 weeks but ok for incubation and you have to weight your bird.

You will need to dust their bedding and coop with lice dust (available at most supermarkets, pet and rural stores) I just throw a little around every 4 months and use Ivomec once a year.

Most vets sell it (will cost around $4 for 20ml) or most farmers keep it as treatment for pests on sheep cattle etc. The vet will usually give you a small syringe for the job to, easiest way to do it. Other than the once a year dose i sometimes use a little of the powder on the birds in between. Dose new stock on arrival with ivomec, prevents infecting your own with parasites.

Goodluck

I just remebered, surface spray on perches especially at ends. Stops them in their tracks! :!:

If it is legmite (scales), you just need to rub vaseline all over the legs and after about a week, the old scales would have fallen off thus killing the leg mites.
This does no harm to your chickens
