Hi everyone, I would like to get some chook info if I could..
I have bantams as well at home and one little Englich Game hen went broody so I let her sit and hatch 3 eggs.
The youngsters were fine for a week or so and then I came home one arvo and they were lying on their sides gasping for breath and died in a couple of hours after that.
The rest of the chooks in the shed (separated from Mum and chicks) are all fine.
It appeared to be some kind of respiratory problem that I have never had before.
Any ideas what may have caused it?
The mum is a good mum and was keeping them warm but they did die suddenly........
Not much info to go on but that is all I have.
They had food and water and were under cover and it wasn't too hot or cold....

Hi Buggsy, Could the chicks stand & or walk? Sounds like Respiratory Fungal Infection. The following link is to a Topic which should help or at least explain.

Thanks

No, yhet couldn't stand or walk and were "gasping".
Also a fair amount of fluid came out of their beks (air sacs?) and I thought my young son may have tried to give them water but he said no.
Could very well have been respiratory.............
Will read your article.
Thanks.

Hi Buggsy, would say it started with CRD which can turn to Respiratory Fungal Infection, if you have any more infected you need to get some Baytril. http://www.getphpbb.com/phpbb/viewtopic ... cksaustral
