Has anyone here ever had experience with rearing orphaned wild birds? We have been having non stop rain and storms for over a weel now, and just this afternoon i found a very young butcherbird chick sitting in a muddy puddle, looks like it fell from a nest (cannot fly at all), my parents advised i left it there for the mother to find (but in a dryer spot), but at 12am i went out and found it sitting all cold in the grass so decided to take it in, rather than leaving it in the rain (this is about... 6-7 hours after i first saw it). Now it's sitting in a nice cat carrier with a hot waterbottle under a nest shaped towel :P I have found a very helpful site
http://www.epa.qld.gov.au/nature_conser ... irds/#gen5

Just wondered if this kind of thing has happened to many others and if it's easy to raise them so later they can be set back free?

Thanks,
Alice

Wombaroo make various bird mixes - and you're right, Stuart, vets usually have something like that in stock. For a butcherbird you would probably need the insectivore mix, designed for insect-eating and other carnivorous birds.

The little guys doing great :D I've been trying not to handle him/her too much, just go in to check up on it and feed it (got a few good 'recipes' of a website) and i'm hoping, as it's looking incredibly better and even starting to flutter around a bit, i can set it free sometime soon. Hoping it will work...
