My kids call them Christmas birds because they are red and green.

Do you have many in your garden? They are very intelligent and very tame.

We get a pair come around for a couple of weeks each year. Only ever see them a handful of times and then it's wait until next year. They're pretty skittish too, no chance of getting near them.

Unfortunately they just don't hang around long enough to see. I wish they would though, they're lovely to look at.

I am very fortunate that we have a vast array of native wildlife that visits our property.

What a glorious colour. I don't know about the kids but I like it, thanks.

Have you ever seen an immature male Satin Bower Bird? It is inbetween olive green and jet black? I used to think that they were undecided about their gender. We once had a bower of blue built in garden. He used to steal all ours and the neigbour's blue pegs!

Don't know that I've ever seen an immature one, but the mature ones are quite striking and I love their bowers, very industrious. Mum, when she was younger, used to go bushwalking at O'Reilly's Guesthouse in the Lamington National Park just north of Brisbane. She said they often used to lose blue items, even things like toothbrushes, that had been pilfered from their rooms through the open window, if you were lucky you might find it again in one of the local bowers.

We also have the blue and red parrots around. The orange and green ones are extremely friendly. We have on occasions left the back door open and I believe they think it is an open invitation and fly inside. [smilie=fly1.gif] not an easy task to capture a wild parrot and escort it outside. They will easily eat sunflower seed out of your hand.

The magpies are also very cheeky and tap on the window, given half the chance they would also come in.
