Hi, thought I'd start a new topic to swap tips & hints about freighting birds. I'd rather sell/buy locally, but I have a buyer for my par blue scarlet on the Gold Coast so I've agreed to air freight him up there (the guy really, really wants him).

I have a proper freight box for him - any tips about making sure he has enough water and food that won't spill?

I'm sending him via Australian Air Express - costs about $74 from Newcastle to Coolangatta. I've been assured that he will be kept in a climate controlled environment so that he won't get too hot/cold, etc.

Any tips welcome.

Deb :)

Hello Deb, if you go to your local Pet shop that sells a few birds they should have the small wooden freight boxes (cost around 8-$10) they just have small wire on the front. Once you have one, tape an open Chux over the front wire and place a small amount of wood shavings on the floor. Don't put seed or water in the box. You will need to have the bird at AAE 90 mins before the flight so put him in JUST before you leave.

Footnote: Some states prohibit (WA for one) any Seed, Foliage, floor coverings ect... basically they only accept a plain wooden box with the bird.

Good Luck

John

Thanks for that. How long will he be okay without water? I guess they don't drink very much when they are travelling anyway.

Hi Deb, Johns off tonight, but as Jase said they won't eat or drink during transport. We freight birds all over Australia and have no problems, they just be a little hungry when they arrive.

Thanks
P.A
