What do you prefer...

When it comes to pet birds (ie. parrots) do you rather male or females. Is one easier to train or friendlier than the other? Or does it depend on the breed etc?

I find with most parrots, if your a guy you have the best of both worlds because males are normally freindly to either sex and girls love ya to death and despise the female gender.

my sisters Indian Ringneck is a female and it loves more than most people, but it's also about the species of parrots, because some are very sociable and some are parrots that pair of and live with each other. But i'm not so much of a parrot person. [smilie=a_whyme.gif]

we have a cockateil rocky she was a he until she laid an egg but she is very friendly :-D

My very best friend has a female eclectus (spelling?) Roxy and she is absolutely beautiful and so friendly. I wanted Anna to breed her so I could have one of her babies but Anna would not put her girl in the breeding pen so she bought a pair of breeding eclectus. With the pair of breeders the male is much more friendly than the female so I think it depends on the bird and how it was raised. If the are hand raised from just hatched they are extremely friendly. :-D

But a lot of work. Anna looks like the walking dead if she is hand rearing parrot chicks to sell as she has to feed them on a very regular basis even through the night.

We find Males are better as they don't "Breed Cycle" like hens but they can be a little more cantankerous then hens when they don't get their own way

We have all male hand-raised birds, except for one female cockatiel. They are all very loving and affectionate, and we have tried to keep our aviary single-sex to avoid relationship battles when the boys reach breeding age. :roll:

They only ended up being all male instead of all female as the first couple of cockatoos we bought were male so we make sure everything else that we put in there is also male.

That is a whole lot of testosterone, though, so it might still get scary in a couple of years! :shock:
