Do love birds and finches get a long when in the same aviary ?

NO!!

Lovebirds can be quite aggressive and can and will kill the meek finch without issue.

I am assuming you mean African Lovebirds/Peachfaces and not Budgies though with that statement.

Budgies and Finches can live happily together BUT they need plenty of room as well as lots of hiding spots for the finches as Budgies can at times be pretty aggressive as well towards Finches.

Hope this helps.

Hi Peter16, yes they do, the only time you may have a problem is if you don't have enough nest boxes especially when it comes to zebs. Good tip, make sure you have 2 feed stations to limit bickering.

Thanks
P.A

Hi Peter,

I certainly wouldn't risk and of the african or peachface lovebird family with finches.

Lovebirds can be quite aggressive towards one another so a finch certainly hasn't got a chance. Java sparrows are also very aggressive (I know you didn't mention these but as some think of them as finches I thought it best to throw them in as well).

Hope that helps.

We are getting some free love birds from a friend of a friend.
From my mums description they are masked love birds and from what i have read the only way to sex them is by DNA testing
we are going to pick them up soon
are there any behaviors specific to a male/female i should look out for that might help in determining the sex ?

thanks

Peter you can sex vis finger/thumb between pelvic bone. Can't remember which is which but at a stab in the dark the females will be wider.
