It can be genetic also with parrots I have seen whole families like that and they will always just breed the disorder |

Hi Linda The corella doesn't have PBFD. birds with PBFD have feathers falling out all over the body. If the bird is pulling the feathers out there is another reason. It could be health related, hormonal, behavioural ( stressed; bored) or even nutritional. Corellas are very sensitive birds that often show signs of stereotypic behaviour & feather destructive behaviour. A life of prolonged restricted caging sunflower seed based diets and no positive reinforcement or environmental enrichment can all contribute to one psychologically damaged bird. if the bird is continuing to damage itself you need to get some good advice on feeding ( convert onto a pellet based diet supplemented with lots of greens & vegies) lots of positive reinforcement ( see training videos by Barbara Heidenreich) and lots of behavioural enrichment ( natural branches/leaves flowers, native nuts to chew; toys which make the bird have to work for its treats). If you can take the bird to an experienced avian vet then you can also have him checked for any underlying health problems as well as advising you on the above matters. Judging by the photos this bird has been plucking for quite some time. Some of those feather follicles look totally inactive. at best he will grow some of his feathers back if his problems are solved but I doubt that he will ever regrow all his feathers.
