Hi All,
I was just wondering if you have to worm your budgie and do you need to give them suppliments or vitamins to keep them healthy?

I worm my cockatiel with a Bird Wormer solution. It says on the bottle that it is for all caged birds. It is done every 6 months, you can buy it from pet stores or where you buy birds (that is where I get mine from) and add it to the drinking water, you are not to give any greens on the days you give the wormer. I also spray him once every 3 months with an insecticidal bird mite and lice spray, that also says on the bottle it is for all caged birds. Not 100 % about budgies, I am sure another member will be able to help there.

yes you need to worm birds even if the birds don't go out side, they can pick up worms from the food you feed them,we worm our cockatiels every 3 months as well as princess parrot straight into beak as they don't like it in water as they are from dry areas so can go days without water.
rainbow..if you feed your cockatiels buggiemix with some plain canary mix instead of parrot mix they won't waste as much food, our lorries get their worm stuff mixed in their wet mix so they eat it all

We have cockatiels and budgies too!

You can buy a calicum/vitamin perches from the supermarket or pet shop. It is great too for their claws and keeping them trim. The worming solution, mite spray and liquid vitamins are also available in the supermarket. Sulphur is handy to have if your caged bird has diarrhoea.

All our caged birds have natural branches as perches as it gives them a variety of textures to grip on promoting. There is cuttlefish, fine shell grit and an idoine block in their cages. There is also a non toxic cage cleaner spray that kills all the mites and other nasties that lurk and hide in the corners. They have ladders, mirrors, swings, bells and other bird toys, as intelligent birds like cockatiels and budgies can get easily bored being cooped up and start bad behaviour like feather plucking etc...I try to rearrange them once a month to stimulate their brains.

Our birds are hand raised and tame and we let them out to fly once a day. This keeps them healthy as it gives them exercise and they can stretch their wings and they can socialise. You can train them to return and sit on the top of their cage or have a bird play gym for them so they don't drop bombs on the furniture.
