Having unpacked my new R Com 20 which I have purchased to incubate duck eggs I have noted that there are several settings for egg turning; hourly, 2nd hourly or 3rd hourly.

Does anyone in APF world use an R Com for duck eggs?
If so....what egg turning setting do you use?

I have never changed that setting and hatched 3 duck eggs along with some bantam chicken eggs and mine is set to 1 hour but not sure that is right?

thanks KJ Kenny,
It's all a bit daunting trying to work out settings...that's why I thought I'd ask the question.....I would agree with the hourly turn for chicken eggs....

Mine came default set at 1 hour I have never changed it and it works good but I have only hatched chicken eggs

Shouldn't really matter as long as they are turned at least twice a day.
I have set my R-com 50 at 1 hour and 2 hours no difference in performance in chickens.

thank you for your comments...amd yes.....if I were incubating chicken eggs...I would have them turn frequently eg; hourly.....but my understanding is that for duck eggs, it may be better to turn them less frequently.....

I asked a friend that has one but longer than me and he's hatched lots of chicks and some ducklings he said the duck eggs were set on 2 hours

Holderread"s "Storey's Guide to Raising Ducks" suggests a minimum of two or three turns per day but says "Some commercial incubators are programmed to turn eggs as frequently as every 15 minutes. However, for the small producer, turning once every 1 to 2 hours can give excellent results."
Given that any mechanical device is only good for a finite number of operation cycles it is probably a trade off between a very small benefit in hatchability and a long term reduction in the life of the turning mechanism.
I use the 1 hour option for my more precious eggs and the longer options to hatch less special eggs.
