One of my chicks that hatched cannot walk. It was delayed in hatching, over 12 hours, i peeled some shell but left the membrane and it finally hatched by itself but has curled toe. So I splinted the toes, they are fine but one leg is "lazy" and hangs behind so I splinted between the legs and also put pads on the feet to help and it can now "sit" upright without falling overhowever its day 4 tomorrow and nothing seems to be working. This chick is a fighter, its eating when hand fed and drinking from a syringe and preens itself and i am not sure what else to do?? I think the delayed hatching has caused this and I have it in the house now under lamp for TLC care. I have put sibling in to keep it company but that one is doing so well under mum its only been for a short spell as it became distressed. I dont know what to do, this chick is so strong except for its legs.....is there any hope or should I be considering putting it out of its misery as soon as practical??
You can see the problem, the Right foot turns in, that is the lazy foot......any suggestions? Or is it better to be cruel to be kind? I feel terrible!!!
