Hi I need advice on breeding Lavender Pekins. Should I vaccinate? How can I tell if they have Cocci ( or Mareks)? Will the other chicks get it if one has it? Need loads of advice and tips if anyone can help Thanks Chooklover101 |

Are you a member of your local poultry club? If not join one they can help you with many things like vaccination your chookies as some members may buy vaccines in bulk and share. There are separate threads on Cocci and Mareks. viewtopic.php?f=60&t=11436 viewtopic.php?f=60&t=891 viewtopic.php?f=60&t=453 |

I could go on and on and on abt the vaccinate or not vaccinate thing – but at the end of the day it comes down to weighing it up and personal choice |

Oh My Gosh(!) I am starting to breed chooks now! Today is the day where I get a hen broody. But I have a problem. How can you make chickens lay eggs?( I know you give them laying mash and that but my girls need something more. They are frightfully lazy.) It is their first year of laying eggs I was hoping there would be an eggscellent start but seems I am wrong. Help! I need them to lay eggs pronto. My other mixed lot are laying so I might have to breed crosses until the Lav Pekins start laying Thanks |

Hey Chookie Do you want them to lay eggs or go broody or both? Try putting some apple cider Vinegar in their water for a few days as thats suppose to get their hormones back on track & laying again. Will keep my fingers crossed for you. If you think making them broody will get the saying then try that method one if the others talked about & put a bunch of fake eggs in one nesting box Other than that I'm not sure what else you can do. My Clara's still on holidays it's driving me nuts too. Cheers Chicka-Dee |

Thanks why do you want to pickle them Ah ha ha ha sorry, couldn't resist, you crack me up! Not having a go!!! I don't know what it is about the apple cider vinegar but it's got a lot of " properties" that help. I think normal white vinegar has been too processed & refined, so no Chookie I'd stick to the ACV |
