Hello everyone, I am looking at getting an incubator and want to know the pros and cons of manual versus auto turners? Cheers

Hi Jaffa, The real difference is with manual turners, the eggs should be turned three times a day & that means opening the bator to do so loosing heat each time, not to mention being there to do so. All our bators are Auto's

Thanks
P.A

Hi,
Semi autos could also be an option, you just have to remember to turn them...!!

I use an auto & 2 semi autos-i turn them 7.30am & 7.30pm each day-advantage over manual is that you will not have to open the door, advantage over Auto is you dont have to pay as much.Disadvantage over auto is you have to remeber to turn it :!:

Thanks Kai thats great information, so from around $180-$600, thats a big difference just to remember to turn the eggs. That would buy a lot of Ginkgo biloba (for the memory-I think  ) which one do you use?

Have you had a good run with it, some incubators I hear are not very good, guess it depends on the price :!:

Hi, I bought a semi-auto used Brinsea Octagon 10 incubator from ebay for $157. Before setting the eggs I downloaded a calendar from www.timeanddate.com which you can customise however you wish - then most importantly - noted 3 to 5 times daily on my printed calendar, every time I turned my incubator and also kept note of temperature variations. Only had a couple of days where the time between "turns" ran longer than they should have, but chicks hatched ok. :-D
